Ambria

About

Ambria

Heroes are supposed to be brave, aren't they?

Ambria is a mountain nation ringed by storm, ruled by mages, and defended by knights who have not fought a real war in a hundred years. It is the last free place in the world, and the Dark Lord wants it.

Vetch is sixteen the first time an army reaches his valley. He is a squire, a third son, and a boy who is afraid of battle. Over four seasons of war, he learns to climb walls, to kill, to lie, to hold a line, and to ask the question no one in Ambria wants answered: what if the enemy has been telling the truth?

Because the Dark Lord is not a monster in a black castle. He claims to be a son of Cronus, at war with the gods who ruined his family, and the mages who rule Ambria have hidden the truth about him for a very long time. Vetch's cousins and friends, Breda, Gilder, Dunn, and Persimmon, will each have to decide what they are willing to lose for an answer.

The Ambria series is four books: Darkest Autumn, Brightest Winter, Coldest Spring, and Deadliest Summer. It begins with berries and ends with a prophecy of doom, and in between it asks what a gentle heart is worth in a war.
